The Wildcat Sanctuary

MEME.jpg

This is Meme, the first resident of The Wildcat Sanctuary. She appears on the cover of the book FINALLY, FOREVER FREE which I compiled and edited in 2020. The project was overseen by the sanctuary’s Founder and Executive Director, Tammy Theis. This is a charity very dear to my heart and if you have a love of animals, especially cats of all sizes, please consider buying the book. The majority of the proceeds go directly to the sanctuary.

Thank you,

Verena Rose

Dedication:

To the animals who sacrificed their wild lives to teach us the most important lesson of all, compassion, I dedicate this book.

Over 20 years ago, I rescued my first wild cat. My mission to take in and rescue any wild cat in need, to provide them a better life, began.

But I never planned for all the losses I would experience. At the time, I did not understand the impact saying good-bye would have on me personally, our staff, and our supporters.

I once read the loss you feel today is only mirrored by the love you felt when they were here.  I would never trade loving each and every one of my rescued friends. Over the years, writing their memorials has helped me cope with the difficulty of losing them, one by one.

I did not want each of these rescued cats’ lives to have been in vein. Many came from abusive and neglectful situations. Others were exploited and some given up because they did not act like a household pet.

I wanted their stories to live on. Not only to honor them, but also so people would care enough to prevent their story from happening to another animal.

As you read their memorials, you’ll notice I do not focus only on the difficult history they had. I also share the amazing capacity for forgiveness they had, and their gift of resiliency.  Every part of their story needs to be shared and each part has a lesson.

Tammy Theis
